The Story: Okay... so I go to an estate auction and am looking through a box of old woodworking planes and I pick up a nice hefty one and see that it says Stanley and No. 605 on it. So I sit down with my trusty laptop and Google it, discovering that it might be worth a few dollars. So I buy it, along with several others. Wasn't until I was cleaning it up and researching it a bit more that I realized that I actually had HALF of a Stanley 605. Turns out the whole snoot of the poor thing's been broken off!
Description: So here it is.... up for bid with a 99 cent starting price and NO RESERVE! This WAS a Stanley Bedrock 605 with a corrogated bottom, made after they stopped putting "Bedrock" on them. It will be great for parts! The Stanley logo on the lever cap is in nice shape and still sports some of it's orange paint. The moving parts all seem to function fine. The lever which ends up just above the handle moves freely back and forth. The brass wheel under the cutting blade turns easily. The handle functions fine, but when I took out it's retaining screw, it was in two parts. So I glued it back together, but noticed in the process that there is another crack almost through it. At any rate, the bolt running through it holds it all tightly together. The cutter was still sharp enough to slice my thumb while I was cleaning it up.
I'm not an expert on old planes, by any means. (The planes I know about actually fly!) This one had some rust here and there and lots of dirt and grease. I cleaned it up with soapy water and 00 guage steel wool. On the end of the plane, it says No 605. Just in front of the handle, it says PATD APR. 2. 95. and APR.19.10
A Note On Shipping: The shipping charges shown above are for the entire (well, what's left of it) plane. If you'd like to buy this, but you don't need the broken frame, I'll glading send you a revised invoice, charging for shipping just the usable, removeable parts. Just email me at the close of the auction!
Please look at the pictures closely. If you have any questions, feel free to email! Check out my feedback and bid with confidence!
