Any service to a refrigeration system including checking/diagnosis, evacuation and charging needs to get access to the service port. The rubber material will get wared out by time or damaged, making the system to leak refrigerant from the service port. If this happens, you may replace the valve core, by evacuating the whole system, to replace the valve core, vacuum the system, and then recharge the system. this may take you hours to accomplish.
