- Do NOT expect a 1970's or 80's Air Mattress that must be pumped up, and can be substituted as a flotation device like what all of our parents used when they were kids, and maybe even pawned on us when we were really young....this is NOT an air mattress, it is a HIGH DENSITY FOAM PAD that is self inflating. What does that translate to: It's 1.5 inches thick, and softens the hard surface below, but you will not be sleeping elevated 1.5 inches from the ground, you will be sleeping on cushion, and sink into the pad, allowing it to mold into you, and you into it. Our pads have high density foam for comfort and warmth, but again, this is not a blow up mattress from the 1970's. Our pads are meant to be for efficient camping in order to provide for light weight, long distance travel, with something super compact that rolls down to only 6 inches in diameter, yet giving extra warmth at night, and still softening the hard surface for a decent nights sleep.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are used to an air mattress like that used in the 1970's and 80's, where one inflates an air mattress by pump, and sleeps literally on air, this is not like that. These are self-inflating pads. These are high density foam pads, they're 1.5 inches thick, and are meant to somewhat cushion the hardness of rocks and bumpy surfaces, they are not meant to float you in the clouds or anything. If you are looking for pure comfort, then you probably need to get a blow-up bed of sorts weighing in at 7 to12 lbs plus. Our pads are meant for easy-going camping. People who know that camping is camping, backpacking is backpacking, roughing it is roughing it, those people know that this product will do what it is meant to do, soften the hardness of the ground, and add some warmth. For the rest, you probably want something with an air pump that blows up, and is heavy to transport, but very soft to sleep on.
