1 CENT CD: 30 Seconds To Mars 'Beautiful Lie'

One review reads 'While I was an avid fan of their debut album, 30 Seconds to Mars' self titled album was a little too spacey and drawn out in sections. The lyrics while artfully done were over the top with the topics of space and the universe that drives us. Well Jared Leto sheds his skin and bares it all to have this band to succeed. In doing so, he writes a more collective and more song oriented album. As I mentioned the music and the lyrics are very appropriately done. Each song is tight and never falters or drags on for too long to garner some sort of mood. Leto's lyrics sway away from our universe and space, and instead it centers around situations we as humans go through everyday. The CD isn't overly depressed either but more like a rollercoaster with The Kill being the rush and tracks like The Story being the somber mellow tracks. When I heard Attack on the radio, I knew that they had taken a step in the right direction. This is the song that radio has been waiting to have! The title track sets up a mood while still being a solid song that is very reminscent of The Cure. My personal favorite is the adrenaline charged The Kill. It fires on all cylinders. Instrumentally, the band is more raw and less manufactured the way the debut seemed to be. Sometimes the music brings to mind bands like A Perfect Circle, The Cure, or even at times Depeche Mode. I use the comparisons only to give you an overall picture of the sound, but this album by no means lacks identity. I could go song by song on this effort but I think that would almost ruin it for you. What I want to get across in this review is that 30 Seconds to Mars appear to know exactly what they want to do and in the process deliver an amazing album. '.
