US, Brother Ali's second record in the 2009 calendar year, finds the prolific MC and Rhymesayer mainstay as reflective (and effortlessly poignant) as ever. He's also as musically bipolar as ever, basking in his newfound life as a father while name-dropping the Bearenstain Bears on one track ("Fresh Air"), while bemoaning the mixed-up, messed-up state of the world on the next ("Tight Rope"). He also remains one of rap's premier creator of character sketches as on the sitar blues of "Breakin' Dawn." The production on US is as top notch as ever, slipping from golden age glory to intricate pop montages.

As with his previous releases, Ali¹s musical landscape has been created by Atmosphere beatsmith, Ant. Staying true to their soul and blues influence they¹ve become known for, Us takes on a more lush and dense sonic quality with the duo's incorporation of live instrumentation. With guest appearances by Chuck D, Freeway, Joell Ortiz and Stokley Williams of Mint Condition, Brother Ali and Ant have once again crafted a beautifully intelligent and entertaining album for all of Us.


One review reads 'I had been looking forward to the release of this album for a while i am happy its finally here. The 'Rope a Dope' mix tape and the 'Truth is here EP' were excellent and 'us' is a masterpiece. Ali really bears his soul on this one and lets the listener know who he is, where he's coming from and how his journey through life has shaped his outlook. Ali's words and delivery are definately inspired and he covers a wide range of topics, as only he can. Whether the songs are the hard hitting and somewhat boastful tales of being a bad Mutha!@#$ growing up in MN or tear jerking tales of the middle passage and the terrible legacy it has left us with, he doesn't miss a step. ANT's beats, as usual are great. i almost feel like given the quality of ANT'S huge volume of work with both ALI and SLUG that this goes without saying. So yeah, pick up the album and make sure you catch the tour when it comes to your town. .
