Swapping out his rhythm section, Andrew Stockdale proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that he's the mastermind of Wolfmother on COSMIC EGG, creating a second record that is essentially a replication of the first, equally enamored with all the thick, heavy rock of the '70s, specifically Sabbath and Zeppelin, and tempered with a little bit of Jack White caterwaul. All the sounds remain the same, but the songs have changed: with the occasional exception, such as the Stripes-ian salute "White Feather," Stockdale backs away from simple, brutal riff-driven songs, preferring churning exercises in heavy fantasy, sometimes colored with some Deep Purple organ. It's an effective way to show off a tighter, capable band, one that can deliver a serious gut-level punch, and one that is spending more time fusing their influence instead of delivering straight-up hero worship. And, in a sense, that makes COSMIC EGG a mature sophomore effort, particularly if it's just judged on all the sonic textures Wolfmother serves up.

After spending the past 11 ½ weeks in Byron Bay, Australia & Los Angeles, CA writing and recording their 2nd album; Wolfmother return with "Back Round", the first single from the forthcoming album COSMIC EGG. "Back Round" is already a fan favorite and one of the lead tracks to be featured on the next version of Guitar Hero.

Wolfmother took the world by storm in 2005 with the release of their self-titled album spawning the Grammy win for Best Hard Rock Performance for "Woman". The success of the album kept the band on the road touring for over two years and saw them perform in front of millions of people. Now, Wolfmother comes "Back Round" with Cosmic Egg on the horizon and proves true to form delivering their aggressive and classic sound laced with crunching guitars, muscular rhythms and soaring vocals. Cosmic Egg is bound to take fans into another sonic dimension.

Wolfmother comes back after the nonstop touring during 2006/2007 and after some lineup changes. The only one remaining from the original power trio members is their front man/guitarist; Andrew Stockdale.

Cosmic Egg delivers just as much power as its predecessor self titled "wolfmother"; it contains instant rock staples as the debut album did, but proves that during all that touring his main composer endured much more as a song composer and not just as a riff genius.

What this means is that the "filler" of this record is way better that the first album.

Sure you get all the myriad of sounds from the influences that plague this band: Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Yes, Free...you name it. But for a change and a boast of freshness sure "old feels good"
