10 Antique 1890 Y&T Iron Window Sash Locks Keeper Catch

Rare locks removed from windows, salvaged from a newly renovated Victorian estate in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The locks and keepers are made of iron. Originally, all parts were copper plated, however,  some of the copper wore off over the years.

These are probably the strangest locks I've ever seen. I'm not surprised that they were made by "Yale & Towne". Y&T liked to do things differently from it's competitors back in the day. Yale is still around today, so they must have known what they were doing! The part with the threaded rod and knob is the lock and the other part is the keeper. The rod swivels back and forth. It is "unlocked" when leaned back, in an upright position, and "locked" when leaned forward in an angled position. If the rod is in the "locked" position, and you turn the knob counter clockwise, the knob will climb the rod, and will allow the window to open up to 1". With this feature, you could leave your windows ajar while still being locked. This is a useful feature if you would like to leave your windows open for ventilation while you are not home, or if you would like to leave a small child by him/herself in a room with the windows slightly opened.

At the point of salvage, some parts were painted and all were dirty and tarnished (see last photo). Since then, we've cleaned, polished, and oiled each part.

All parts are in excellent condition with no breaks, cracks, or chips. All locks are operational. Some rods may swivel easier than others. A little bit of grease or oil will facilitate their movement.
