The base of the hook is threaded for secure insertion into wood or other pre-drilled surface.  The Action Hook itself is covered with a protective rubber tip and is placed between the figure's back and jacket, shirt, or dress.  Figures not wearing upper-body clothing can be secured by inserting the hook into the waist of the figure's pants, or through the pants leg from the bottom.
