The bill denomination, 1787, is the year that Pennsylvania was admitted to the Union as the second of the Original 13 Colonies.  The serial number depicts the actual date (12/12/1787) of admission to the Union, and Harrisburg, PA is shown as the state's capital.  The Back of the Bill depicts the Eastern Hemlock as the state tree, the Mountain Laurel as the state flower, the Ruffed Grouse as the state bird, and the deer. The U.S. Commemorative Quarter Dollar for the State of Pennsylvania is also pictured.  The state's nickname, The Keystone State, is also listed.
