100+ beautiful naturally-shed small CHICKEN body fluffies Perfect for doll hats and headresses, dream catchers, wands, ceremonies, medicine bags -- or any other time you need a cute little feather but don't want that ugly factory-farm energy in your life or crafts.
Cruelty-free crafts sell better, too. You can assure your customers that no birds were harmed in obtaining these feathers. They were naturally shed by my own happy chickens and geese on my no-kill vegetarian farm. (We do not slaughter, although we do eat the eggs.) (To learn more about what makes a feather cruelty-free, read my free Guide on cruelty-free feathers.) Remember, too, that cruelty-free costs more to produce. The price of chicken feed has DOUBLED in 2008 -- and we feed these birds all year round for their entire lives (average 8-10 years for chickens, 30 years for geese.). You are paying for HUMANE QUALITY! The picture is a generic sample but every lot is a nice mix of natural patterns. Mostly chicken although if I have any other domestic species when I'm packing these, I may throw some in, it all depends on who is shedding at the time. These feathers average 2-3 inches long -- a few larger, a few smaller -- perfect for dolls, dreamcatchers, or other small feather work. It wasn't possible to get 100 feathers in the pic without everything being impossibly small, but you will receive a nice assortment! Natural-colored feathers like these are very hard to find -- especially cruelty-free. Most feathers on the market are a by-product of the meat industry, where the market prefers all-white birds because they look nicer when plucked (no dark pinfeathers). So most commercially-produced colored craft feathers are dyed. THESE ARE NOT! They have lovely, subtle shadings that you can never get with any artificial method. Be sure to check out our other species of cruelty-free feathers in The Happy Rooster store
Feathers from other species come from my network of people who have well-cared-for and beloved companion birds.
When you buy from us, you are helping to feed 3 geese, three dogs, a bunch of cats and a flock of chickens -- many of whom are rescues. (See the About our Cruelty-Free Feathers page for a few stories.) No, we are not a charity or an animal shelter, just a hard-working family where everybody -- whatever their species -- contributes whatever they can. The birds give us eggs to eat, feathers to sell, and manure for the compost pile. We give them food, shelter, and the chance to live out their full lifespans (average 8-10 years for chickens, 30+ years for geese.) Plus we all give each other a lot of pleasure! NOTE: Because these birds run freely and flap their wings, no feather from them will ever be 100% perfect. That's the price of avian freedom -- after all, one reason birds shed their feathers is to replace worn out ones with new. However, I do sort the feathers and will send the best of the best in your auction lot. (Obviously damaged but useable feathers go into bonus "seconds" batches. Really bad ones end up in the compost pile!) SHIPPING: YES, We can combine shipping on feathers. They don't weigh much, but they need to be between cardboard or in a box to avoid getting bent. The post office now charges a minimum of $1.39 for a one-ounce small First Class package -- that's double what it used to be. I try to give the best deal without losing money. When you check out, the combining should happen automatically. To do this, you must WAIT UNTIL ALL YOUR AUCTIONS END and pay for all in ONE PAYMENT! If you pay in multiple payments, you will not get this discount! If you live outside the USA, Canada and Europe, please contact me FIRST before bidding, to get a shipping quote. It's also a VERY GOOD IDEA to check with your customs agent first to see if you can import poultry feathers (Canada, UK and Europe are OK, Australia is NOT, some other places might not be). My birds are healthy -- no Asian Bird Flu -- but some countries are getting very picky about anything from a chicken or goose. I would hate to have you pay for something and then have it confiscated. |
