REPLOGLE 12" Standard Globe pre1948 with Detachable Metal Base
I am selling some of my personal collection of globes. I started collecting these in the early 90s and they have all been well taken care of and displayed in my home. It's very hard to find a globe without any wear and the center latitude strip gets the most wear as that is where you would touch to spin it around! I'm sure a lot of these globes were used in schools. Globes are almost never marked which makes it challenging to date them but I have given you some guidelines below. I collected over 25 globes of different eras and manufacturers, so keep me in mind if you are adding to your collection. I will be putting them all up over the next few weeks.
Here are some globe dating guidelines:
1922 Russian became the USSR
1928 Capitol of China changed from Peiping to Peking (although I have seen later globes that still show Peiping)
1935 Persia became Iran
1949 Germany became East and West Germany
1954 Indochina became North and South Vietnam
1976 Vietnam is unified
For sale is my vintage 12" REPLOGLE Globe with Metal Base. The globe has a circular metal longitude frame and this is detachable from the base by just lifting if off the base. There is also a turn screw at the base stem and underneath the base. Flight and shipping routes are marked in red. I would date it pre 1948. Shows Germany(not East /West), Iran, Peiping and Palestine.
Condition is good, part of paper latitude strip has wear in some places and there are some scratches and wear. The metal base has some of the dark brown finish worn off in places. This globe did not appear to have any finish such as varnish that you might find on a more expensive globe at that time and I think that accounts for the wear. Still a nice looking piece for your collection!
Due to the size and packaging required to ship these, I am not offering returns, as the cost would make it difficult to sell these affordably. As I said they are from my personal collection, however they are not perfect! These globes are over 50 years old and have appropriate age and some wear.
