This is a ONE DAY AUCTION - THE WELSUMMER EGGS WILL BE SHIPPED ON TUES MAY 13th - You are bidding on ONE DOZEN, plus extras, purebred WELSUMMER CHICKEN EGGS for incubation or your broody hen! My girls are laying up a storm! These wonderful birds are quite rare inthe USA. Originally coming from Welsem, Holland, they were standardized in 1922/23. They lay a VERY DARK BROWN EGG, described as a "deep rich flower pot red", some with speckles, as you can see in the picture. The lighter colored brown egg in the picture is from a Road Island Red hen, for comparison only. Baby Welsummers can be sexed - the females having a darker head and back markings. Mature hens weigh approx. 6 lbs; roos, 7 lbs. These are very friendly chickens who enjoy free range, but are content in a run. They also have an excellent feed conversion ratio. My original stock came from Calico Woods Farms, who no longer raise poultry, due to the untimely death of Harry Shaw. Although I am having great success with hatching, and I send you only the freshest eggs, packaged with the utmost care, I cannot guarantee hatchability once shipped, as there are too many factors beyond my control.
