What is the leading cause of damage to your fine camera? It's moisture! In the long run, small amounts of moisture can do tremendous damage to the delicate parts and circuits of your camera, including rust, corrosion, mildew, oxidation, fungus and mold. In the short run, Moisture (water) left to dry will deposit tiny amounts of mineral residue on your lenz, preventing you from getting a sharp image. You can protect your
equipment by using fresh, activated Desiccant Packets in your storage container. The desiccant (silica gel) will remove all moisture trapped in or on your camera as well as remove it from the air within the storage container. But you must use the proper amount of desiccant to do the job.
How much desiccant should you use? Well, I'll include a simple chart along with each order so you know exactly how much desiccant to use, but to give you an idea of how much to order, I'll give you an example. My camera case is about the size of a one gallon container. That space (approx.237 cubic inches) calls for 5 grams of Silica Gel. But ... there's more to consider... I need to consider the container itself. The camera
case is made of a synthetic material and weighs about 6 to 8 oz. This calls for 10 grams of additional desiccant to assure the moisture being held by the container will also be removed and the equipment inside will stay moisture-free. I need a total of 15 grams of active desiccant to protect my camera from moisture damage. (The package of desiccants being sold here will serve more than 8 applications for a camera case the size of mine, or one application for a container of about 8 gallons.)
This calculation will be covered on the chart I include with your shipment.
Follow the chart and you can be sure you're protecting your equipment.
And don't forget, each time you open your container, you expose it to air and there's moisture in that air. How do you know if your desiccant is still effective? Keep a Moisture-indicating card (Three (3) included free with this purchase) right inside the container. The circles on the card will be blue when the desiccant is at full capacity, and turn to pink when the desiccant is full of moisture. When the circles are pink it's time to replace it. When you replace your desiccant, and again produce a humid-free environment, the card will again indicate "blue" so there's no need to replace your Moisture-indicating card. I use double face tape to secure the indicating card to the inside of my camera case.
