A 12 volt unit can be operated off any normal DC battery (battery not included).  Some of our customers have even hooked them up directly to their truck battery.  Depending on the machine, you can get around 2 to 4 hours of continuous use out of one battery.  We suggest using a deep cycle marine battery and always keep one as a backup, especially if using your truck battery.  You never know how busy you may be.
