Q: What is a Techshell, and why do I want one? A: Techshell is a hard plastic snap-on case that provides protection from scratches and dings, keeping your laptop looking new. The shells are used for both physical protection of the laptop within, and aesthetics. (In some cases Techshell will not protect your laptop against unusual abuse, drops, or other occurrences that would normally severely damage your laptop).
Q: What is a "Rubberized" Techshell? Will it make my laptop bounce? A: Rubberized Techshells are shells with the same hard plastic base as any other Techshell, with a rubbery paint-like coating on the outside. It is designed to provide a unique look and feel, as well as a superior grip. It is not intended to be an impact-absorbing feature.
Q: I've heard of scratches from some plastic shells. Is this something I need to worry about? A: Techshells have not been as prone to this problem as our competitors, as there are far fewer openings at the bottom of the shells where dirt or dust can get in, that would rub against the laptop, causing scratches. There is only a small hole for the battery test, and the normal openings for the fan vents of the MacBooks. That said, of course the computer needs to be free from dust, dirt, or sand before putting it into ANY protective case, and should be cleaned out periodically, depending how much dirt you think may have entered in the (small) openings.
Q: Can I use my ports and connections on my laptop without removing the Techshell? A: Yes, the ports have cutouts so you don't have to remove the Techshell to use them.
Q: What are the Techshells made out of? A: Our Techshells are made out of high-quality polycarb plastic.
Q: How do I put the Techshell on my laptop? A: They are form-fitting and snap on through the use of the tabs in the corners. Techshells are not stickers. They do not require any adhesives. There is a video guide at the bottom of this page, and a PDF here.
Q: Will it fit on my Laptop? A: Hopefully! What model do you have? We have 12" PowerBook, 13" MacBook, 15" MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo, 17" MacBook Pro and 17" MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo.
Q: I'm covering my laptop. Do I need to worry about heat buildup? A: Through our testing and customer experience, heat buildup has not been a problem. The vents are not blocked by Techshells, leaving the fans to blow unobstructed. Most Macbooks actually radiate heat through the keyboard and the vents between the base of the laptop and the screen, upward. CPU-intensive tasks will likely still cause your Macbook to heat up, whether the Techshell is there, or not.
Q: This looks like it might prevent my laptop screen from opening as far back as I want it. Will it decrease the opening angle at all? A: No! We were aware of this limitation in other products fairly early on and try to make sure our shells do not restrict the opening of the MacBooks.
