14 CIVIL WAR ERA TAX INTERNAL REVENUE STAMPS CDV PHOTOS

Fresh to the market 14 Civil War era ambrotype CDV photos bearing US Internal Revenue stamps of various types.  The CDVs measure 2 1/2 inches by 4 inches.

All but one of the CDVs are identifed by photograher--

• 7 are from Hawkins & Philpot Photographers Macomb, Illinois (according to a local history, Hawkins and Phiphot were bought out in 1871 by another local photographer S. P. Danley). 
  
• 3 are from C. L. Obst Photographer Pittsfield, Illinois (according to local records C. L. Obst immigrated to Pittsfield from Saxony, Germany in 1856). 
  
• 2 are from E. A. Barnwell Photographic Artist Decatur, Illinois   (E. A. Barnwell photographed Abraham Lincoln in 1860 when he was nominated for president). 
  
• The final 1 is from Barnwell & Pitner Photographers Decatur, Illinois.
  

Six different Internal Revenue stamps are represented on the CDVs--

• 1 cents proprietary (1- combined with 2 cents playing cards)
  
• 2 cents playing cards (1- combined with 1 cents prorietary) 
  
• 2 cents bank check (7- 1 is 1 and a 1/2)
  
• 3 cents proprietary (3)
  
• 3 cents telegraph (1) 
  
• 3 cents forn. exchange (2)
