I made 2 14KT gold pens. This one and another one that is set with a Diamond. ALL exposed metal is Solid 14KT gold. It is not thin gold sheet as are commercial gold pens.

First after making the wax patterns the gold had to be cast. As cast each pen set weighted about 35 grams, well over an ounce. Second they had to be machined on a metal lathe to the right size and shape. Size is quite critical as every part is a press fit. Too small and pen would fall apart, too large and things start bending and / or breaking. The Clip was cut from springy gold sheet.

When first completed I had all the weights written down. Have long since lost that information. The Gold parts for each pen came to 20 or 21 grams each. An ounce is 31.1 grams.

The wood used on this pen is dark walnut, hard maple, plus "I Forget" down the center. Us old guys forget much better than we remember. The original design box, / pen stand is made of Copal. I Used "Copal" for the box, mostly because I liked it. Also very hard and long lasting.

The internal workings are naturally made of base metal. And work like a "Parker" pen. Twist either way to write and twist firmly to the left to change the "Parker" style refill.

Opening bid is less than 1/2 of the original Wholesale price, when gold was around $400 per ounce. This morning it was well over $800.
