DESCRIPTION:

This lovely genuine black onyx lucky pendant, with the Chinese character "Good

Fortune", "Prosperity", and "Longevity" is set in solid 14 karat yellow gold,

with a surrounding Asian edge design.  It measures 9/16 x 1 1/3 inches (width x

length) and has an approximate total weight of 3.6 grams.  Chain not included.

The myth that black onyx originated from the body part of Venus, known for alluring

beauty, justifies the stone’s fine texture and lustrous black color.  Originally this stone is

chalcedony quartz, which falls in the microcrystalline category.  The name "black onyx"

comes from the Greek and means "fingernails" and is formed in the gas cavities of lava.
