white mother of pearl medium size hoop earrings
is set in solid 14
karat yellow gold. It measures 1 inch. in diameter
and 1/8 inch.
wide with an approximate total weight of 6.7 grams.
Mother of pearl are the many-colored
substances that forms the lining of the shells
of some freshwater
and some saltwater mollusks.
Like the
pearl it is concealed
and
composed of alternate layers of
calcium carbonate and complex protein. Among
the chief sources are the pearl
oyster, freshwater pearl mussels, and the abalone.
