This auction is a rare offering for a Black Letter FOLIO size leaf from the FIRST EDITION reprint edition (this an authentic leaf not a facsimilie) of the "GREAT" BYBLE (known as such for the large printing of the page in that day) measuring about 8" X 12". This contains verses from the GOSPEL OF LUKE chapters 22-24(p) and contains events just prior to the CRUCIFIXION OF JESUS and also HIS RESURRECTION!! This is the only edition that reprinted the 1st 1539 edition(that sells for upwards to $50,000) Prynted by Thomas Petyt and Robert Redman for Thomas Berthelet; Prynter unto the Kynges grace 1540. Will come with a Certificate of Authenticity. There is a little soiling/browning over 450 years old!!! The "Great" Bible was a revision of the Matthews Bible by Coverdale. Known for the pointing hands. PLEASE NOTE: it is recommended that antiquarian cloth leaves be framed with archival(and acid free) materials, or if stored(this offers the best protection), with acid free materials. Avoiding direct sunlight or fluorescent lighting is highly recommended(avoiding any light is best). If you are not going to frame your leaves, let me know and I can include two acid free sheets to protect your leaves. FRAMING(QUARTO AND SMALLER) AND STORAGE MATERIALS AVAILABLE(ANY SIZE LEAF) FOR AN EXTRA CHARGE(allow two weeks for framing though it may take less and no refunds allowed-pictures available of frames).
