Great Bible

and
Printed Before Verse Divisions!
Also the Final Printing of the Great Bible
*********************************************
With an amazing inscription opposite the Title to the second part:

This Book containing the Book of Common Prayer, the Bible divided into three parts the apocryphal books: of the New Testament was presented by Mrs Crew of Maidstone Kent to the
Revd John Lightfoot
of Harefield Middx
on
Sept 6th ?1634
Looks like 1834 although they sure wrote different then, as the Rev. John Lightfoot was a very important Churchman and Scholar in the 17th Century. So would be wonderful to research more on this Provenance.

Amazing to see a Great Bible that was the property of a Minister of the Word!

Bound in very old full calf, with a beautiful central design to the covers, and even has one remaining Brass corner piece on the front and one on the rear with the Hasps remaining on the rear cover! A very early binding as well, near contemporary to the Bible itself with a very good, old reback, the binding is very sound.

 A cornerstone to any collection. Image:Cathedral 2 by andy205.jpg
Truely some amazing feautres this Bible has:

With beautiful seperate Title pages to:
"The Seconde Parte"
"The Thirde prt of the Bible"
The volume of the Bokes called the Hagiographa"
(Apocryha)
and an incredible dated title to

"The New Testament in English, translated after the Greeke...
Conteyning these bookes..

The Bible is in good antiquarian condition, especially considering it is an amazing
439 Years Old, Bibles of the 16th Century are very rare in any condition, especially one this early, as printed only 34 years after the first printing of the Bible in English!

There is expected wear and soiling, some scattered doodles in some margins and writing to the blank before the New Testament, some wear to the page edges from use, the end pages are frayed and have some writing on them, and bound in is a 16th Century:
A BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER
Lacking Title.

The Bible itself the first page of Genesis is frayed around the edges, with loss of a few words, the next page already has excellent margins and there is one page in Genesis with a old repair to the top 15% and margin with loss, and the pages have a fine patina throughout, the last page of Rev is lacking as are the tables and prelims, for a early 16th Century English Bible it is in remarkable condition and has 4 Title pages!

A beautiful and very rare Bible.
Old St Paul's prior to 1561, with intact spire
This is a Quarto, 4to, version
Measuring approx.
8" tall and is a massive 3 1/2" + thick.

With raised bands to the spine, and tooling to the spine to match the covers!

Will be sent very well packed and shipping will be 17.00. Plus actual insurance at the end of the auction to be added to the shipping costs.
