Rebound in a Lovely Grey and Light Blue Marble cover design with vellum binding and leather detail and labeling to spine, nice marble end pages, with a beautiful illustrative title page, with a great full page illustrations with nice illustrative woodcuts to headings/endings and intials, each page in a black border, introduction pages in a nice stenciled woodcut border, and a great Historical Religious Read; Nice Size and great Chronology of Events!!!

Background:

Paolo Morigia was born in Milan in 1525.  He belonged to the Congregazione dei Gesuati [Order of the Apostolic Seminarians of St. Jerome], founded by the Blessed Giovanni Colombini, of which he was four times nominated General Father Superior. With the approval of the Holy See he also reformed its statutes.
An historian, his works were judged by Tiraboschi as being absolutely lacking in a critical spirit. Be this as it may, he gathered extremely interesting data for a knowledge of the history of his day, mixed together with fabulous and puerile reports which attest to the extreme credulity of the followers of Morigia. He died in Milan in 1604 and was buried in the Church of S. Girolamo [St. Jerome]. 

The titles written by Morigia range from his Istoria dell'origine di tutte le religioni (Venice 1569) - also translated into French (Paris 1578) - which is a superficial history of the origin of the religious orders, to his Istoria delle antichità di Milano (1592) which is a collection of the most accredited popular stories and fables in Milanese. We can also mention his Istoria della nobiltà et degne qualità del lago Maggiore (Milano 1603).

Condition:

Condition is Good+/Very Good.  Some wear to edges, light blemish near upper right edge of first 30 pages, some pages are age toned, hinges/text block are very good/excellent.  Pagination is off in a couple places, some numbers repeat, couple places skips a number, but appears to be complete, worst case, missing a couple pages.  Overall, for over 405 years old its in Good+/Very Good Condition!!!
