First published in 1607, in Latin: Annotationes in Biblia. The English translation was published in 1643. It and the second English edition of 1648 are paginated; the 1651 edition is unpaginated.

BIOGRAPHY:
Giovanni Diodati (1576-1649), Swiss Protestant theologian, preacher, professor, translator, writer, reformer, Calvinist, succeeded Beza, translated Bible to Italian and French, wrote Annotationes in Biblia.
Wenceslaus Hollar (1607-1677), Prague engraver, etcher, cartographer, trained in Merian’s Frankfurt workshop, moved to England, became known for portraits and views of London before the Great Fire of 1666.

This edition usually listed with 1,110 pages. The “A” register and 2A-4 are lacking, or a total of five leaves. The first four are the title, preliminary remarks and first pages of the Table for Genesis. The last leaf, 2A-4, is from the Table for Matthew.

Text is continuous despite register, except where 2A-3 is out of place and 2A-4 is lacking.
Full calf with boards that are detached, scuffed and chipped at edges; spine has five raised bands. Backstrip is chipped, with two separating midline cracks (see register collation above for locations).
Front paste-down bookplates: 1. Ex Bibliotheca Aulae Hrypensis Oxonii, 2. Midland Clergy College, Rev. Benjamin Ruck-Keene. Front free endpaper and frontispiece are detached together.
First two leaves after second crack held at tail band only. Last two text leaves and back free endpaper are detached together with back board. Detached leaves are chipped at edges.
Text block binding fully separated in two places. No loose or missing pages other than noted; occasional edge creases, chips and small tears. Leaves have some age toning at edges, little foxing; no fading or offset.
