Here is a short bio on Stephen Crisp: Stephen Crisp (1628 – 1692), of Colchester. He was a Quaker activist, "traveller in the Ministry" and prolific writer. He is credited with establishing the Quaker faith in the Low Countries (Holland). There was a Dutch expatriate community in Colchester and his mother and`second wife were Dutch. GLOSSARY for my Unique Items - Please READ so you will better understand the item(s) up for bid.
- Extract:
defined as a piece of literary work that has been removed from a larger
volume. This may consist of complete chapters, several pages, or even
one single page. It also may consist of an entire book or pamphlet that
has its own title page but was bound together with other works in a
large volume.
- Disbound: defined as an extract that was once part of a
larger volume and at some point has been removed from that volume.
Since it has been removed from a binding it may appear
somewhat rough along the edge where it was bound; however, this will
normally be well outside of
the text area. The photo / scan of the item may not show this as it
may be a "zoomed in" picture to make the text readable. On some of
these documents there may be page numbers from the larger volume that
may not show in the scanned photo. Also, many
of these documents are 200 years old or older and will look like "old"
documents. The description of the item starts with the assumption that
this document is very old.
- Title Pages:
Since most books only have one title page with the print date and the
author's name; I will make available to the winning bidder a scan of
the complete title page to keep with your disbound extract. I will
provide this to you upon request
by sending it as an attachment in your email (I will need your email
address). You should be able to print out a nice copy to keep with
your extract which will authenticate the print date and author. I
recommend requesting the title page as some of the extracts will not
have the author's name or book title in the text.
- Frame and Display:
Many of these disbound extracts have ornate antique printing and would
look nice in a framed display. USE YOUR IMAGINATION! Perhaps include
a portrait of the author along with the documents in a nice picture
frame with custom matting. I'm sure these framed displays would make
great gifts, such as to a Pastor or a Church; and also look great on a
Library wall.
NEW ITEM - TIN-TYPE REPRODUCTIONS
- Tin-Type Reproductions: I
am now offering a unique art form that I call "Tin-Type Reproductions". On some of my listings I will be including a
digitally enhanced portrait-document made directly from the original rare items that I list. I use a process including real metal that makes the portrait-document
look like an antique "tin-type" but enhanced. People who have seen
these have been amazed at the depth and reflective quality of this
artwork. If you purchase one you won't be disappointed!
