Description: These are two original, antique, engravings from an English Bible history published in 1705. There is one engraving on each side of the page. The paper is heavy and handmade. Titles are in English. (more information below). The cartouche (with its seal) for Plate 27 reads, "The Worshipfull John Jeffreys of Llywell in the County of Brecknock, Esq. For the Advancement of this Worke, Contributed this Plate to whose Patronage it is humbly dedicated by Richard Blome." The cartouche for Plate 28 reads, "The most Noble Princess Mary Dutchess Marchioney[?] and Countess of Buckingham Countess of Coventry, Vycountess Villers, and Baroness of Whaddonn, etc. For the Advancement of this Worke, Contributed this Plate to whose Patronage it is humbly dedicated by Richard Blome."
More information: This is a late 17th.C work of art which also has historical significance. The whole originally designed by Richard Blome, Esq. Cosmographer to Her late Majesty Queen Anne. Images from the later 1752-52 edition of this book are currently being sold retail for $60 each. The plate for this print was made in the 1680's. The printing of our image was done somewhere between around 1685 and 1712. For anyone interested, here is more complete information on the book. Fontaine, Nicolas, Sieur de Royaumont, "The History of the Old and New Testament, extracted from the Sacred Scriptures, the Holy Fathers, And other Ecclesiastical Writers. ... To which are added, the Lives, Travels and Sufferings of the Apostles ... With a Large and Exact Historical Chronology of such Matters as are related in the Bible ... "; London: Printed for Jeremiah Bright, in Friday Street ... in St. Paul's Church-Yard. 1712.
