Original Antique Copper Engraved Map


Map Title: Hoch Reichs-Gräffliche Reusische Lande: mit angräntzen den Gegenden. [Germany – Historic Lands]
Printed: Nuernberg, 1720


A most unusual map of central Germany, extending from Thuringia to Saxony, serving to highlight three distinct regions. Several cities are shown, some of which include Eisenberg, Gera, Leutenberg, Oelsnitz. The Weisse Elster and Saale rivers, mountains and forest are also depicted. A decorative cartouche completes this nostalgic antique chart.

 

This is a scarce copper engraved map with original hand colouring, and elaborately illustrated(decorative) cartouche. Mild aged-toning, otherwise in very good condition, retaining a strong impression. Placenames are in German. This is an original map printed in 1720, from an antique atlas by J. Chr. Weigel titled 'Taschenatlas, Atlas Portatilis'.  Sheet measures approximately 6.75 inches x 8.25 inches (17cm x 21cm).  Suitable for framing.
