1729 Chatelain Atlas Sphere





Titled:
La Sphere Artificielle 

This is a fabulous original copper engraved Sphere world chart published
by Zacharie Chatelain in 1729.
It is taken from the Tome Premier book "La Science des Personnes de Cour"


Zacharie Chatelain (d.1723) was the father of Henri Abraham Chatelain (1684-1743). 
Together they worked as a partnership & their work was mainly based on the maps of the French cartographer, Guillaume De L’Isle, who became Royal Geographer to the King of France in 1717 and produced many maps for the Royal Academy of Science.
The Chatelain family often published De L'Isle maps and also produced their own maps based on those of De L'Isle.
 Their maps were accompanied by information pertaining to cosmography, geography, history, chronology, genealogy, topography, heraldry, and costume of the world.
Their work made them become very highly regarded publishers.
