1744 Bellin "Plan de la Baye de Chedabouctou ajourd’hui Havre de Milfort"
This is a 7.5 x 11 inch ( 23 x 28 cm) copper-plate engraved map by Nicholas Bellin ( Paris 1703-1772). This map has modern, professionally applied color. Decorative cartouche. Place names in French. Source of this map is de Charlevoix’s Histoire et Description de la Nouvelle France...". Overall condition is VG+ to Near Fine -. On light paper. A very nice map in all respects. Re-struck in German in 1757 where the bay is called "Chedabuctu" which interestingly enough is the name in use today.
Chedabuctu Bay is on the east Coast of Nova Scotia. This maps shows the Salmon River, a "Bourg" and fort. ( near what is today’s Country Harbor or Guysborough, which was named for Gen Guy Carleton, Commander of British forces in Canada way back when). A bit of Isle Royale in the upper right. Link to Acadia, but I could not find detail on this. A "Village du Sauvages is shown, At the mouth of the bay is I. aux Renards (Fox Island) and Cap Rouge.
