THEROLD WITH THE INTENTION OF CORRECTING THE KING JAMES VERSION BY REMOVING PRINTING ERRORS, AMENDING THE SPELLING AND PUNCTUATION, UNIFYING THE USE OF ITALICS AND FORMALIZING MARGINAL ANNOTATIONS INTO THE PLACE THAT THEY OCCUPY TO THIS DAY. THE ENTIRE PRINTING BURNED UP IN A FIRE AT THE BOOKSELLER BENJAMIN DOD'S WAREHOUSE IN 1762 JUST AFTER BEING PRINTED AND ONLY 6? OF THESE LARGE FOLIO FIRST EDITONS ARE SAID TO HAVE SURVIVED.

With its Original Superb Contemporary Red Morocco Leather binding with large Gold Cross Centerpieces on both boards front and back, Extensive gilt designs, flowers etc, ornate gilt borders and Corner pieces. Early professional rebacking with the Original Spine laid over! Extensive Gold Flowers in 7 compartments and 6 raised bands, with Gilt Red leather Title label. Some wear to corners. Overall in Spectacular Original Condition! Text with Gilt edges. Gilt dentelles. Marbled endpapers. Engraved frontispiece, Engraved General Title Page plus Printed General Title Page Dated 1762. The text is clean throughout, unmarked, crisp with sharp edges and corners. This MASSIVE ELEPHANT FOLIO Containing Two Volumes in One Contains the Old and New Testaments, the Apocrypha, index and tables. The General Title is present however it appears the Bible was bound without the N.T. Title. I have never seen such a Clean, Crisp and Fresh Bible of this period. WITH APPROX 300 ENGRAVED ILLUSTRATIONS AND SIX (6) HUGE DOUBLE PAGE MAPS!!! I Firmly believe that this Exceedingly Rare Bible is one of the Very Finest 1762 Bibles of the few that exist! PROBABLY THE ONLY 1762 TWO FOLIO VOLUME BIBLE WITH ENGRAVINGS AND MAPS THAT EXISTS IN THE ENTIRE WORLD! THIS WORLD CLASS RARITY AND CROWN JEWEL BIBLE IS A TRUE MUSEUM PIECE!
This is an extremely important foundational Bible, being the First 'standard' edition which was prepared by Dr. F.S.Paris and H.Therold with the intention of correcting the King James version by removing printing errors, amending the spelling and punctuation, unifying the use of italics and formalizing marginal annotations into the place that they occupy to this day. Apart from it's extreme foundational importance and its magnificent binding and condition, this is an extremely rare Bible; according to Darlow and Moule ' ... copies are very scarce; Only six (6) "FOLIO" two-volume Sets are said to have survived a fire at Benjamin Dod's warehouse' (The Bookseller who had exclusive rights to the whole printing).
