1780 Austria Maria Theresa Thaler Proof Silver Coin 

 Here is a great looking restrike of a world-famous trade coin.  The Austrian Thaler of 1780 was a widely circulated coin in Austria for several hundreds of years and remains a popular collectible.

The obverse has a portrait of the Empress Maria Theresa, and the inscription "M. THERESIA D.G. R.IMP.HU.BO.REG." translates as "Maria Theresia, by the grace of God Roman Empress, of Hungary and Bohemia Queen".  Below the bust are the initials S.F. which stand for the names of the two Guenzburg mint officials in 1780, Tobias Schoebl (S) and Joseph Faby (F).

The reverse shows the imperial double-headed eagle with the arms of Austria at the center, surrounded by four quarters representing Hungary, Bohemia, Burgundy and Burgau (Guenzburg).  The inscription reads "ARCHID.AVST.DUX.BURG.CO.TYR.1780" and translates: "Archduchess of Austria, Duchess of Burgundy, Countess of Tyrol, 1780". The "X" next to the year indicates that the coin has been struck following the coinage convention of 1753.  The raised edge of the coin shows the motto "lustitia et Clementia" (Justice and Clemency) with various ornaments.

This Proof coin is a restrike from .8330 pure silver and weighs 28.1 grams, giving it an Actual Silver Weight of .7517-oz.  It has a mirror-like finish on the background surfaces, lots of shiny lustre and is a great collectible, memento and conversation piece.  I put this coin in a hard plastic capsule to protect it and you'll be pleased with this one!
