I love doing research on old antiques. A couple things that I found out: The cast iron ring around the top is used for cooking. Burnside stoves were widely used in the 1800's for buisnesses and one room school houses. These stoves were placed in the center of the room and could easily heat a 4-6 room house . It would be perfect for a studio flat. If you would like to start a search of your own use "burnside stove". You will find 100's of old stories...... I also found several pictures of burnside stoves going to live auctions. Most were #20 and higher, not #1. There was also a book written about these stoves "BURNSIDE STOVE BOOK BY ROBERT H BARNETT". It can be purchased on Amazon. As I mentioned before, the legs are missing, I found a "foundry" that will custom make the replacments. Also I found a diffrent company that will custom make a brand new ash tray for $60. If the stove does not sell as-is I will order the parts and the stove will double in price. The stove will then be complete! Pot belly stoves this size sell between $2850-$4850+ Look here: http://www.goodtimestove.com/heating_stoves/antique_stoves_potbelly.html Shipping is FREE for Local Pick up Only!!!!! Dont wait for someone else to steal this once in a lifetime opportunity! If you would like to come in person to look at the stove, just let me know! Here is your chance to own a beautiful piece of history! 1800's, Huntington West Virginia Foundry , Burnside #1 wood and coal pot belly stove. One of the first Pot belly's to be made in WV. This stove is solid pig iron and weighs over 400 lbs. This is truly a mueseum piece. I would prefer that this stove stays in WV due to the history behind it. This is the type of wood stove that your great grand parents talked about. I found several articles online that refered to this stove. There are places to mount legs under the ash catch, but I do not have them. It has a rotating grate to dump ash. There is a vent on the front which ash falls through to the ash compartment #8 picture. This IS NOT damage. It is the way the stove was made. There are NO rust outs any where on it. Very thick solid walls. It stands 43" high and is 62" around the center. This stove WILL BURN ALL NIGHT! Plenty of room for lots of wood, coal. The first reasonable offer will take this stove home. Please feel free to ask any questions. I am willing to take this stove to Ripley WV or Parkersburg WV at interstate 77 for a small gas fee. This will make pick up much easier. Thanks for looking!!! |
