1800's French Art Nouveau Gold Ormolu Cast Iron Frame

Description

Victorian Large Heavy Cast Reticulated Antique Gold Ormolu Frame; Gorgeous old gold patina to the gilt French ormolu or pomponne. Weighs over 4 pounds. Gilded over a thick copper jacket that is plated over this Victorian era solid cast iron frame. Will brighten with ormolu cleaners if desired; But, that would also brighten the copper that is peaking through the ormolu at the edges - I wouldn‘t touch a thing. Wonderful heirloom condition with a gorgeous 100 year old patina. Extra heavy duty mantel type frame - will not bend or dent even if dropped. Solid thick and chunky sand or sandi-casted in a two part mold at an olde world battery. I have a set of 5 small bronze ormolu stand frames from Italy for sale in a seperate auction; No additional shipping will be charged for the small frame lot if both auctions are won. This gorgeous frame is very heavy and extravagant; Bidding begins low for fairness (see highly detailed photographs below). Ormolu has worn through to the copper plating at the corners and some specks the scroll and floral design edges - not noticeable at all on display. Cast iron visible through the back as it was not plated with copper on the back and never gilded completely on the backside. Iron swivel stand works perfectly and does not stick and is not too loose; Also, the stand is all original to the piece and is not removable; And, there is no glass with this frame - your local hardware store can usually cut a piece for under $5.00. This was purchased from an estate in the historic town of Sedalia, home of the 19th century Bothwell Hotel and the Missouri State Fair. The streets are lined with antebellum mansions and manor houses where many items have been found stored for centuries in the 3rd story attics and boarded up 2nd story porches. See highly detailed pictures below. Only Holds 8x10 photographs in photo area; Total frame Measurements are 15 inches top to bottom of piece by 11 ¼ inches wide. It would be possible to place a mirror within as the photo area is very thick and roomy measuring just over ¼ inch deep. Would make a lovely addition to your early Italian gilt bronze or brass, French moulu or pomponne clock and candlesticks set, candelabras, or ormolu chairs and furniture. If you collect only the best like I do you will not want to miss out on this! I have never found one like this.(see pictures; very nice!). You will be able to tell right away just how very antiquated this is. Just a lovely unique piece! Would make a lovely addition to any Early American Colonial home, Mission, or William and Mary decor. Will be shipped in a large box with expert packaging, crystals will be wrapped individually in bubble wrap; Piece will not arrive broken. Please ask any questions before bidding as item is not returnable. Thanks!
