Antique Lithographs
Up for auction is a wonderful pair of religious lithographs that I believe are from the late 1800's. Each print is titled on the bottom the litho of Christ being Ecce Homo No.5 and the Virgin Mary is Mater Dolorosa No.6. There are no markings on either the prints or the frame otherwise. The frames are an early mission style with faint traces of the earlier Victorian period in the ornamental strip around the inside of the simple oak outer frame. The ornamental strip features an alternating pattern of fluer de lis and flowers. The glass in each frame has no cracks but each has a small 1/2 inch chip at the top edge of the glass, barely seen unless looking at an angle. Each frame is board backed and one has about a three in knothole out of it which does not affect it's usefulness. Jesus boardback is cracked but still in tact. The prints themself are great. I removed Jesus from the frame becausea couple of nails holding the back are missing and it could be done easily. There is just a touch of fading around the edge under where the frame covers. I see no damage on either frame as observed from a display point. I assume there is faint discoloration from exposure to light when comparing the the edges of the prints that have been protested by the frame. The detail is superb in each of these. I wish I knew more about these pieces but am certainly willing to send additional photos to any who sends me their email. I will also try to answer any questions. The framed piece measures a nice 24 inches by 20 inches across. Shipping is set at $40 and will include insurance.
