Sections of an Artery (Aorta) From the Human Subject
Labeled W. Watson and Sons, London. Handwriting matches that of Edmund Wheeler (compare with slide R, plate 38 of Bracegirdle’s “Microscopical Mounts and Mounters”). Wheeler was a professional mounter in London, from 1866 until 1884. Watson bought out Wheeler’s stock in 1884, and Edmund Wheeler died in 1885.
This is a historically important stained section of human tissue. The mounting medium around the specimens is still clear, and tissue details easy to make out. A small chip to one edge of the slide, and slight deterioration of the ringing material, but the tissues are still perfect after more than 120 years.
