1805 GEORGE WASHINGTON TOMB BATTERSEA PORCELAIN TIEBACK

Rare and historically important, ca1805, Battersea Porcelain and Brass Curtain Tieback with an image of George Washington's Tomb. This outstanding piece of early American Political / Presidential porcelain measures 1 1/2" in diameter and is mounted in its original 1 7/8" diameter, brass tieback frame with intact lead back, brass shaft and hand turned iron screw. This American Historical Porcelain Tieback was produced for the American market as were other known examples of the period with images of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Lafayette and other American Revolutionary War and Federal Period figures. This rare and beautiful tieback features an image of George Washington's Tomb at Mt. Vernon. Text on the Tieback reads simply "Washington's Tomb". A number of Americana Historical, Political and Patriotic Battersea Porcelain Tie Backs (or "picture hangers" as they are sometimes called) were produced in the years before the War of 1812 and each of the designs are both rare and highly sought after. We have never seen this particular design before and believe it to be VERY RARE. It came to us with a small group of Tiebacks which also included the "U.S. Capitol" being offered for sale this week on eBay.

This rare and beautiful Historical Americana Battersea Porcelain Tieback is in excellent condition - clean and bright with strong and beautiful transfer decoration and hand coloring. There are no chips, cracks, significant surface crazing, staining, repairs or damage of any kind to either the porcelain insert or the metal components. A vary rare and simply beautiful ca1805 Battersea type Porcelain insert Tieback with an image of the George Washington's Tomb at Mt. Vernon and a fantastic addition to any collection!!!
