This is a beautifully detailed, very large wall map of New York and the adjacent states, 1818. The cartographer, John Eddy, was deaf and died at the young age of 35. Eddy's map making was among the best of early 19th century New England Cartography. The best of his work is evident in this New York State map which is remarkable for its clarity of execution and detail.

Actual map is much sharper and detailed than the low resolution scanned image used here.

Map measures approximately 36" by 45" (91 by 114cm).

The maps are reprinted (a modern reprint) using premium semi-matte photographic paper and Ultrachrome ink which has an archival rating of 125+ years.

Is the resolution disappointing?

The resolution is not disappointing. It is our goal to impress you with the quality and make you a repeat customer. Most of the maps are derived from large format photographic negatives which, when scanned, produce tiff files in excess of 100 megabytes. The maps are printed on an enhanced matte paper using Epson Ultrachrome archival inks--rated for 100+ years.

Are the images in the public domain?

Many of the images are, however, we directly own an increasing number of the images and the ones we own are under copyright. Additionally, some of the images we do not own, yet have an agreement to produce, may be under copyright. If you are interested in using one of the images and would like to know the status of it, contact us.

Will the watermark/writing appear on the map?

No, the watermark will not appear on the actual photograph, map or poster.
