Scarce and Interesting 19th Century Review on the Following Book

Author: HENDERSON, Ebenezer.
Title: Iceland; or the Journal of a Residence in that Island, during the Years 1814 and 1815, Containing Observations on the Natural Phenomena, History, Literature, and Antiquities of the Island; and the Religion, Chararacter, manners, and Customs of its Inhabitants - (A Review)
Publisher: London: The Quarterly Review, 1818.

Notes:An engaging contemporary analysis on the renowned and historically important book, which was published in 1818.

Approving review of Anglican divine's Ebenezer Henderson's journals, who between 1806 and about 1817 devoted much of his time to the distribution of Bibles in the Scandinavian countries in his role as pastor at Elsinore, Denmark. Within that period were Henderson's two years in Iceland where he lived in close contact with the local population and reported on the nation's general character, observed methods of devotion and investigated various landmarks: the Abbey of Kyrkiubae, Mount Heckla, the craters of Trölladyngiar, and the Trölla-börn. Henderson also reported on the origin of the surturbrand, Iceland's 'singing swans' and collected a number of mineralogical specimens in the natural structures - Trölahlad (Giant's Wall) and the caverns usually found among them - Dverga Kamrar (Dwarf's Chambers).

A rare and special item to pair with the collector's copy of the book!

Condition:
31 pages. Book review. Excellent condition, attractively bound in blue paper covers with label.
