Seller: Alley-Antiques
DESCRIPTION: Our opening bid is our reserve. Staffordshire Transferware. Beautiful and hard to find early dark blue transfer plate with an American view. This is from the "Spread Eagle Border" series by Joseph Stubbs (1822-1835). This plate dates to the 1820s at circa 1825. The view is called "Nahant Hotel, Near Boston". Marked with a printed pattern only. The Nahant Hotel was built around 1820. It was a very popular resort destination on the Island of Lynn just north of Boston Massachusetts. People arrived by boat or causeway. Condition is near proof. It is probably the best example I have seen in this pattern. No chips, cracks, or repairs. The plate is nice and clean with no wear. The glaze is clear and shiny. No crazing. The best example we have come across. Fabulous early hard to find example. Measures about 8 1/4". First picture was taken in natural light and is closest to true color, the other pictures were taken with a flash which "brightened" up the blue color.
