	Title: Stanley Hawk. Astrur Stanleii. 1 Male, 2 female Date: 1831 [dated on watermark J Whatman 1831] Medium: Copperplate Engraving & Aquatint on high quality J Whatman Paper Color: Original hand coloring Dimension: image (no clear image border), plate (64.1 x 96 cm or 25 1/4 x 37 3/4 inch), paper (65 x 97.8 cm or 25 1/2 x 38 1/8 inch) Credits & Marginalia: No. 8, Plate XXXVI, Drawn From Nature and Published by John J. Audubon, F.R.S. F.L.S. Engraved, Printed, & Coloured, by R. Harvell Condition: This print overall is in excellent condition [i.e., clear and pristine image, strong and bright paper, vivid colors, no bend, slight but even age toning]. The paper is thick and strong with slight creamy tone. There are some very minor stains [detailed on photo # 7] along the edge of the bottom margin, one small [1/2 inch] margin tear at bottom margin left [shown in detail in photo # 5]- all as shown by the detailed photos. The watermark [J Waterman 1831l] is located top right next the blue bird. Ample photos [front, back, details, and the watermark (photographed via back lighting, thus the dark color)] in high resolution are presented for your convenience of identification and judging its excellent quality independently. Description: Of all the Audubon’s prints that are available in the market, the prints from Havell edition of Audubon’s Birds of America [published by subscription in London beginning in 1824 and completed in 1838] are most sought after by collectors. Yes, it is the original, the first edition, and very rare [only ~ 200 copies were printed originally and most of them are in museums or institutions, only a few copies of each bird are circulating in the marketplace now]. Audubon painted the Stanley Hawks (Accipeter Cooperii with many common names, e.g., Cooper’s Hawk, Blue Darter, and Chicken Hawk etc) in 1824-25 in Philadelphia and Louisiana respectively. The common Eastern Bluebird on top [being chased by the female] was done earlier [see Havell plate 113]. The Raptors are widely distributed in the entire United States and are fun to watch [especially when they are hunting]. The print will be securely packaged flat and shipped with insurance [included in the shipping and handling fee] for domestic address or USPS airmail priority with registration [insurance also included] for international address [but the print has to be safely rolled into a strong tube for international shipping because of the size limit].
