1834 Carey, Lea & Blanchard Map of Japan and Chinese Empire
The source of these charming miniature maps is "The Geographical Annual for 1834' It is the second edition of a Family Cabinet Atlas published by Carey, Lea and Blanchard in Philadelphia. The atlas is the American edition of the British Starling atlas. All maps & plans are 3.75 x 4.5 inches (9 x 14 cm) in the horizontal format and the reverse in the vertical. They are on a 4.25 x 7.0 inch page). Each is an original hand-colored engraving on heavy paper. The Country maps come with a Gazetteer page as well. Though these are small, they are loaded with detail, including numerous place names and, on many, an index of major subdivisions ( provinces , departments and the like). A quite scarce atlas
South America at the early part of the 19th century. Colombia extends to Central America. No Venezuela or Ecuador. Topday's Argentina is La Plata in the North and Patagonia in the South. Includes Juan fernandez islands and Falklands (here so named).Uruguay is called "Banda Orientale". Superb topographic detail and a slew of place names, especially along the coastline. VG+ to NF- condition
