This coin is an 1837 Feuchtwanger 1 Cent Token, it grades Choice EF-AU. This token is about as nice and original as you will find.... it is a perfect problem free token with no negatives of any kind, it is very eye appealing. It has a natural silver-grey toning and the surfaces are superb. This token was made by Dr. Lewis Feuchtwanger in 1837 to demonstrate and promote the use of his metal as a replacement for copper in producing coins, many were given to members of Congress. Feuchtwanger's Composition was really a variety of German Silver consisting of nickel, copper, and some zinc. A number of these tokens actually circulated as 1c coins during the coin shortage of 1836-1844. Just a super neat and very interesting piece of US coinage history, not to mention a superb example.
