Handwritten journal dating from 1839 to 1844 of Sumner R. Mason, who later authored the book, "Truth Unfolded" (Sermons and Essays of Rev. Sumner R. Mason). The journal is essentially a ledger of Mason's various expenses while he was in New Haven, Cincinnati, and Nashville. Approximately 66 pages have writing on it and there are several blank pages in the center. Of particular interest is an entry he made on November 4, 1843 where he writes about a visit to see former President Andrew Jackson. "Visited the Hermitage and saw the Hero of New Orleans, fast declining with consumption evidently already is infected in both mind and body to a men child, though his mind is yet clear, but partaked largely in the general debility of his system". Enter "Sumner R. Mason" in a Google search and his online book comes up with an interesting biographical sketch of Rev. Mason, mentioning his time in New Haven, Cincinnati, and Nashville.
