1846 Very Early 36"x24" "Stovepipe" Statehood Map of Texas by S.A. Mitchell (Reproduction)
Great Gift!
In 1846 when this historic Texas reproduction map was published by S.A. Mitchell, Sr. the boundaries of the state were still unsettled. The "stovepipe" extension reaching to the 42nd parallel is shown and the boundaries around El Paso in far west Texas are still unresolved and will be until 1850. The area west of Dallas and Fort Worth was almost entirely wild and the llano estacado atop the Caprock was largely unknown territory. This early map also shows Indian Territory which had been formed in the 1830's as well as Taos and Santa Fe which had been claimed by the Texas Republic.
This is one of the few early maps that shows the entire state of Texas without truncation, which adds greatly to visual appeal.
This limited edition print is far larger than the original which was published in a Mitchell's Geography at a small size. it is a tribute to the original engravers that this map, even at four times the original size, is still razor sharp.
The sample picture shown is at very low Internet resolution and reduced in size. It does not even begin to show the detail and quality of the actual map. All Antique Maps of Texas(tm) reproductions are scanned at 300+ dpi and offer fantastic resolution and detail even in reduced sized prints.
The Perfect Gift: As period decor, a business gift, and as a working map for writers, scholars, schools, historians, researchers.
Frame Size: The sheet size fits nicely in easily available stock frames. This large size is easily readable as well as creating a striking effect on den and office walls. All maps are printed on very heavy acid-free paper with archival inks. Beautiful in a frame, but also capable of withstanding continuous handling and everyday use.
While there is nothing like owning an original map, a quality reproduction offers access to almost unavailable maps, affordable pricing and the opportunity to actually use the map rather than just protect it. Unlike many cheap reproductions which are taken from easily available archives, all maps from Electric Books are professional quality products on expensive high quality paper stock. In addition, we actually own or have the rights to all of the maps which we reproduce. They are direct :1 to :1 high resolution reproductions from the originals, not downloaded copies of copies of copies...
