ARGUMENT OF W.G. & G.W. EWING AND OTHERS,
IN FAVOR OF THE CONFIRMATION OF TWO AWARDS
MADE THE OTTOWA AND CHIPPEWA NATIONS OF INDIANS
AT MACINAC, GRAND RIVER, AND SAULT ST. MARIE,
ON THE 24TH DECEMBER, 1850, AND 3D FEBRUARY 1851,
BEFORE THE COMMISSIONER OF INDIAN AFFAIRS.
Washington: Jno. T. Towers, 1851. Scarce government document concerning the government’s reneging on promises regarding trust money for Indian tribes, matters still being worked on in today’s courts. 55pp. 6 x 9 inches. “Property of Shawanesse” written on front. Quite worn, title taped to paper on front and last page taped to paper as well. Some staining & creasing throughout, one leaf torn, missing bottom half (text loss). Chiefs try to attain sums they were promised in treaties. Some funds seem to be awarded in some degree and simultaneously they are told of all the money they owe to white men. Millard Fillmore, Lewis Cass, H.R. Schoolcraft, Indian Agents, Michigan, Indian Chiefs, &c. Quite a rare document.
