This 8 x 10 inch ( 20 x 25 cm) hand colored lithograph map is taken from the "Mitchell’s School and family Geography". It has inset maps of Liberia and Egypt, the former with a detailed explanation. Lots of data here withe admission that the central part of the country was an "Unexplored Region" Overall VG+ condition and nice pastel coloring

There is sometimes the tendency to dismiss these as ‘school maps and not worthy of note'. The first part is right, but on the second, Mitchell created a real quality product. Indeed the engraver was J.H. Young who worked for Mitchell on bigger projects and also engraved for Finley. In short, these are "real" maps and not some child-like look at the "Dark Continent".
