| Very Rare and beautiful, 1852, Stone Lithograph American Advertising Sign / Illustrated Broadside for J. R. Hewitt a Horse Saddle, Harness and Trunk Maker from Springfield, Massachusetts. This fantastic, pre Civil War Illustrated Advertising Broadside is tinted using light blue and off white inks. It features an outstanding image of store fronts along Main Street in Springfield with J. R. Hewitt's Saddlery occupying the central unit in the block. Text at the top of the Sign reads “J. R. Hewitt, / Saddle, Harness, and Trunk Maker / Dealers in / Valises, Carpet-bags, Whips, etc.”. Text below the image reads “Corner of Main and E. Bridge Streets, / Springfield”. This outstanding piece of American Advertising measures approx. 10" x 14" and is signed by the Lithographer - Thomas Chubbuck of Springfield. The sign is undated but we do know that the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) has an example of this sign which is dated 1852 in manuscript.
It should be noted that example at the National Cowboy and Western He5ritage Museum is part of their premier Collection of Saddlery and Cowboy Gear Catalog and Ephemera and is not only the earliest piece in the Collection but is touted as one of the three “Highlights of the Collection”!!! It should also be noted that the example in the Museum Collection has been trimmed to the arch toped printed border while the example retains significant borders on all edges.
This VERY rare and important Saddle and Harness Maker’s Advertising Broadside is in excellent condition. As stated above it retains 1/2”+ margins on all edges. The sheet is generally clean and crisp with no tears, chipping, stains, significant soiling repairs or damage of any kind. There is some very light and scattered spots of foxing but overall this early 19th century Advertising Broadside is VERY well preserved and displays beautifully. It is matted and framed for display in a simple, mid 20th century wood frame (overall size with frame is 14 1/4” x 18 1/4”). A fantastic and VERY RARE, 1852 American Advertising Broadside / Sign for a Saddle and Harness Maker and is destined to be the centerpiece of even the most advanced Western Americana Equipment Ephemera / Advertising Collection. This important Advertising Broadside is sold here, as always, with no reserve and the confidence that it will attract the serious attention that it justly deserves!!! Good Luck!!!!!!

Important Notes about Shipping Charges and the eBay "Detailed Seller Rating" Star System:
The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by eBay and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a $1.00 "packing fee" - the $1.00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the $1.00 fee.
We have NEVER requested Feedback from our customers as we were taught that "fishing for compliments" was impolite but the new eBay Detailed Rating System has put us in a rather tight spot. Most buyers are unaware that eBay bases a monthly fee discount on a Seller's "Star" rating. A monthly average of "4.6 Stars" (in any one of the four "Star" categories) costs us approximately $400 in additional eBay Fees - that's $400 above what we would pay if we had a "4.8 Star" average in all 4 "Star" categories!! As a consequence we hope you do not find us rude to ask that if you are happy with our items, our service, and our packing & shipping please be sure to use the "Star" rating system and remember that a "5 Star" rating is the only way we can qualify for eBay's fee reduction program. ,
