1852 US Coast Survey "Reconnaissance...Santa Cruz, San Simeon, Coxo and San Luis Obispo, California"
18 x 12 inch BW electrotype chart from the 1853 Annual Report of the Superintendent of the US Coast Survey. Four sections. Somewhere along the line, an owner felt this chart merited backing, so it was done with japan paper (professionally). Also the lower left margin has been extended along the last 8 inches That said, still a nice plate that merits a VG-. Note: paper is naturally more cream colored than gray.
Four harbor reconnaissances done by Lieut James Alden and his party. Coxo Harbor is east of Point Conception The chart shows a "Rancho" and observatory The others are more familiar names, but do not appear to be harbors of significance but, rather, open road steads, all being unprotected to the South.
