"Life of the Blessed Virgin, Mother of God, with the History of the Devotion to Her", by the Abbe Orsini.
Published by Gay Brothers & Co., Springfield, Massachusetts (copyright 1853, HARDBACK, several books bound together in a single binding, over 800 pages in all.)
Rare book. The actual printing date is not clear. There are numerous references to the copyright being 1853, but on page there is the date of 1879 printed - but ALSO there is a marriage certificate bound into the middle of the book, which was filled out and signed in 1873 (six years before that 1879 date) so all I can say about the date is that it was almost certainly printed between 1853 and 1879.
Contents ALSO INCLUDE:
"The History of the Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God - Volume 2", translated from the French by Mrs. J. Sadlier.
"A Monument to the Glory of Mary ... Meditations on the Litany of the Blessed Virgin", by the Abbe Edouard Barthe.
"The Admirable Life of the Glorious Patriarch St. Joseph: to which is added the Lives of St. Joachim and St. Anne, taken from The Cite Mystique de Dieu (The Mystical City of God)", by the Abbe J.A. Boullan.
As mentioned above, there is also an 1873 marriage certificate bound in, plus some family lineage recording in handwriting spanning up to 1943 for the family named Barrett, and at the back of the book is a section for PHOTOGRAPHS, including one antique photo that is still there (probably the Barretts)
The condition is basically good - the pages are flat and clean, and the textblock is secure. The outside cover is mostly detached, and on a blank page next to the marriage certificate are several newspaper articles pasted in, but otherwise good shape, especiially in view of the considerable age and scarcity of this. Consider it a good "reading copy" of a rare book.
