Description of coin
We present an extraordinary and extremely scarce, 1854 $3.00 Gold Indian Princess. This magnificent coin appears to have very little wear, and has incredible detailing in all key areas of the coin. It comes with a razor sharp reeded edge. Certainly, there are very few remaining examples of the year still in existence that are as phenomenal looking as this gorgeous representative. It's likely that it saw circulation for only a brief period of time. Guaranteed genuine, it possesses a superb strike on both the obverse and reverse sides, and displays extraordinary and glowing, cartwheel original mint luster. It comes with only very minor distractions, none of which are visible to the human eye. Even upon 5X magnification, it looks virtually perfect. The hue is a breathtaking mixture of extremely rich and vivid orange-gold-honey-copper-rose colors. When viewed at under a nice lighting source, you simply couldn't ask for a more radiant and beautiful looking coin. Original mintage figures for the year, stand at an incredibly small 138,618 coins, of which just a tiny percentage are known to still exist in any condition. The Three Dollar Gold Pieces were only minted for a few short years. The price of a first class postage stamp was 3 cents during the years that this coin was minted. This made it easy to purchase a complete sheet of 100 stamps for the price of one coin. Proofs of this coin are exceedingly scarce, with only 10 minted for the year 1854. On April 5, 1933, by order of the President of the United States, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, it became illegal to own gold coins. The exceptions were gold coins and gold certificates in an amount not exceeding in the aggregate $100.00 belonging to any one person. The confiscation and subsequent meltdown of gold commodities was implemented to provide relief in the existing national emergency in banking, and to stabilize the national money supply. This resulted in the near extinction of all gold coinage. In 1975, when the ban was finally lifted, virtually all of the premium quality gold coins were extinct. They are arguably among the most beautiful coins ever designed. Combined with their extreme rarity, and the very high price of gold, it's no wonder that these coins are among the most sought after of any coins ever minted in the United States. In higher grades, they are priceless, and as demand far exceeds supply, this trend will continue. Someday, the opportunity to own one of these magnificent gems may be gone forever. They are, and always will be, a very important part of American history. In our opinion, this coin appears to be in AU condition, however, since grading is subjective, this is not a guarantee. Please view our detailed photographs, then decide for yourself. We know that the most avid collector or investor will be delighted owning this gorgeous coin, and we sincerely thank you for taking the time to view our auctions. For long-term storage, in a safety deposit box or elsewhere, we recommend storing your coin in a PVC free environment, such as in the 2.5" x 2.5" plastic flip that will be included free of charge with your purchase.

Frequently asked questions
Are your coins as nice as they appear in the photographs?
Our coins are much nicer looking than displayed in our auctions, as our photographs are magnified 30X, and show defects that would never be visible to the human eye. All photographs are of the actual coin that you are bidding on, and are not altered in any way whatsoever. Andy is a graduate of the prestigious New England School of Photography, and has over 35 years of experience as a professional photographer, having mastered journalistic, medical, and numismatic photography. This assures you of unparalleled and accurate photographs of the types of coins that we sell.
How much do you charge for shipping and insurance?
Shipping is free worldwide. Insurance is included on all coins mailed to locations in the 50 United States, its territories, and possessions. International insurance is included, provided your country is on the list of eligible countries highlighted under the "Payment and Insurance" section below.
Are your coins cleaned, polished, or otherwise altered?
Unless otherwise stated, we never knowingly list coins that have been altered in any way. However, since the coins that we sell are up to 200 years old; it would be impossible for us to say with total certainty, whether or not a coin has been cleaned, altered, etc., at some point during its lifespan. For this reason, should you decide to send your coin to a third party grading company, we cannot guarantee if it will be encapsulated and graded. Most major grading companies now offer authentication & details grading services for coins that would otherwise be considered as non-gradable.
If I send my coin to a third party grading company, can you guarantee that it will receive a certain grade?
Due to the subjective nature of coin grading, it would be impossible for us to guarantee a specific grade your coin will receive, or if it will be gradable at all. Third party grading companies often assign a different grade to the same coin. Coin grading is part art and part science. This is why we give you a full 7 days to determine if it meets your expectations. We make every effort to purchase only the finest quality unaltered specimens, and guarantee that all of the coins we sell are authentic. Beyond 7 days, unless a coin is found to be non-genuine, we cannot accept returns under any circumstances.
Can a coin with numerous bag marks still receive a high MS grade?
Virtually every coin ever minted has bag marks. These are caused by contact with other coins when placed inside a bag for shipment to a bank. Numerous high grade MS examples of rare coinage have bag marks or other imperfections, even on key areas of the coin.
Can we give advice on coins that we don't sell?
If you seek advice on coins that you own, please bring them to a local coin dealer. It's not possible for us to offer opinions on coins that aren't in our possession. Also, please note that we don't purchase any of our coins from the public.
Why should I purchase a rare coin from you?
We are customer oriented, with years of experience as numismatists. We attend all major coin shows, searching for the finest quality rare and historic coinage in the world. We value our customers highly, and always do our utmost to provide them with the finest rare coins and service available anywhere. A very large percentage of our business is from repeat customers. This speaks volumes about how happy our buyers are with us. We go to great lengths to not only describe our coins accurately, but also to provide you with extreme close-up photographs of every coin we sell. Due to time restraints, we can only answer e-mails that are specific to the coins that we're selling. E-mails are usually answered within 24 hours, however during evenings when we have no auctions ending, or periods when we have no auctions listed at all, the time period can be substantially longer. We strive for excellent customer service, and know that you'll be pleased doing business with us.
