Superb, rare, important, large antique 1854 folding map. The map is titled Map of the Andes Drawn by Lieut. Lardner Gibbon, U.S. navy, To Accompany His report, 1854. I like how the year produced is right in the title, it dates the map nicely, esp. if framed and displayed. Fascianting , attractive and detailed period map of the Andes Mountains. Very detailed, with notations like Snow , Llama , named mountains , U.S. Tent , Bolivia , Lima , a boat in the water at right hand side and so forth. The map is overall in nice shape, with some clean seperation at right hand side, and also a couple tears there. The upper right hand side segement of the map has the original book board attached to it. This would frame and display nicely, if framed properly. The size is 24" by 19". Very rare.
